Yubikey Tools applications were updated to version 1.1 which brings Offline YubiKey authentication. For this to work you will need another tool called GinaConsole (work name) which will be released soon as a separate download. For now, we are showing you how Test Tool works, once a YubiKey is configured for Offline authentication.

As you can see, this YubiKey is not validated on Yubico’s online servers (since it was reprogrammed and its AES key was not uploaded to Yubico), but is validated successfully locally on this computer. The second attempt fails with “replayed OTP” response, as expected.

A small update about Yubikey Tools. Now they are supporting Offline authentication. First you run GinaConsole tool to enable Offline mode. You will have to provide Private ID and AES Key in order to activate the feature:

Then, there is a new CheckBox available in Logon dialog which controls the Offline authentication behavior:

Today we’ll introduce our latest project (codename Yubiii) which is still under development, but really close to a public preview release. It’s aimed to allow Windows Log On, Computer Unlock, and other features to be enhanced with YubiKey OTP strong authentication abilities. Hardened security at Enterprise level, or even at home is a well desired goal since recent few years for both technicians and senior managers. Now, by using YubiKey OTP and Two-factor Authentication, we got an access key to the Computer assets which drives this goal to more achievable level than ever.

Next, we are going to show you the administrative tool which was used to configure and link a YubiKey to my Windows User account. This tool (codename GineConsole) will be part of Yubico Tools, together with Yubiii itself. There are several options on About tab as well; remember this is a preview sneak-peak, and User Interface will probably be updated, if not for sure. Anyway, I think it looks nice even now.
Oh! Probably you have noticed it but I am going to say it anyway – all settings will be made fully manageable through Administrative Template (Domain admins are welcome!) Enjoy!
As of today we are using Yubikey to access our Web Site management console, in addition to standard username/password logon process. Enabling 2-factor authentication on our Web Site was a simple task; it turned out to be an easy 3-steps process:
- Install YubiKey WordPress plug-in and activate it from WP Plugins;
- Go to WP Settings, then Yubikey, and enter the yubico API info;
- Edit WP User, and enter Yubikey OTP under Account settings,
and that’s it! Enjoying hardened security already… (:
As we have promised, the Yubikey Tools set has been updated and is available for downloading right away. It contains (for now) only two tools – one for Yubikey validation testing (primary for developers, and protocol debugging), and another for automatic workstation locking (once Yubikey is unplugged).

A new addition to the collection is under way. AutoLock will remember your Yubikey and lock out the computer once the device is removed. You will have to Logon to Windows in order to unlock the computer. AutoLock will continue to work in background, waiting for your Yubikey arrival, and will start monitoring it again. Coming soon…

Couple of weeks ago we got some Yubikeys and some lucky of us are already using them. Meanwhile a new set of tools is coming around the corner – Yubikey Tools – and their first member is available for downloading right away. If you are lucky too, and you got your new Yubikey, grab this little application to play with it.

This tool has been built as a proof of concept, that Yubikey Validation could be done easily with Borland Delphi. We have created a Library for rapid application development supporting OTP (One-time-password) validation on Yubico’s Validation Servers. It will be used for future Yubikeys Tools development, and will be released to the public soon.
